Join a snow trekking trip around Lake Shikotsu to see breathtaking frozen waterfalls.
Come see the mysterious frozen waterfall that appears in the eastern part of Lake Shikotsu in winter! This snow trekking trip will take you through the beautiful scenery around Lake Shikotsu. The sight of this incredible frozen waterfall while bathing in negative ions will fill you with the wonder of Hokkaido.

Meet at the shop in Lake Shikotsu Shopping Street to fill out consent forms and meet your guide

When you are ready, drive to the entrance to the waterfall in the guide’s car and proceed along the forest road.

Put crampons (spikes) on your boots and go down to the bottom of the waterfall. On the way down, you will see the ice palace. When you get to the bottom, enjoy the magnificent view of nature along with the fine spray of the waterfall.

Take a break and have tea together (if it is crowded under the waterfall, we may take it in the space above).

[By car]
If you are driving, set your navigation system to “Shikotsuko Onsen” and head to the shopping street parking lot on the shore of Lake Shikotsu. Looking from the parking lot, you will see the “Guest House Shikotsu Kamui” sign in the center of the shopping street.
[By bus]
If you are taking the bus, get off at the “Shikotsuko Onsen” bus stop and you will see the shopping street on your left. You will then see the sign in the center of the row of cars along the parking lot. It is about a one-minute walk from the bus stop.

- ~70 minutes from Sapporo
- ~40 minutes from New Chitose Airport
- ~30 minutes from Tomakomai
- ~70 minutes from Jozankei
- ~90 minutes from Niseko
[By public transportation]
- Take the JR (~40 minutes by rapid train) from Sapporo Station to New Chitose Airport (in front of Chitose Station), then take a bus to Lake Shikotsu.
- Take the bus (~1 hour) to Lake Shikotsu.

What to Bring & Wear
- Cold weather gear- warm and easy-to-move-in clothes
- Snowwear tops and bottoms, light down jacket, or similar wear
- Cold weather gloves are a must. Ski or snowboard gloves are also acceptable.
- Waterproof trekking shoes, boots, or snow boots with thick socks.
- Knit hat
- Sunglasses or snow goggles
Valuables can be left in the free lockers on site.
Gloves, knit hats, and neck warmers are available for free rental.
