Your local Explorer will greet you at Maruyama Park for a peaceful morning stroll to Hokkaido Shrine. There, experience a truly unique Japanese custom: joining a local group for radio taiso. This nationwide daily exercise, broadcast on the radio since the 1920s, involves synchronized, easy-to-follow movements designed to promote health and well-being across generations. Millions participate daily in these gentle stretches and calisthenics, fostering a sense of community and shared activity. - Itinerary
- 6:15: Meet your Sapporo Explorer and head to Hokkaido Shrine. Your guide will meet you at the entrance to Maruyama Koen, and from there you will take the path up to the main grounds of the shrine.
- 6:30-6:45: Join the radio taiso exercise. It is easy to follow the movements, and welcoming to beginners- leaders of the radio taiso group will stand on the steps of the shrine for you to see.
- 6:45-7:20: After finishing radio taiso, explore the quiet Hokkaido Shrine with your Explorer. They will tell you the history of Maruyama Park and Hokkaido Shrine. See the shrine without the crowds! It has a special atmosphere.
- 7:20-8:00: Let’s take a little detour to wander through Maruyama Forest on its wooden boardwalks. Enjoy a leisurely walk along the path where the river flows, allowing us to feel the invigorating energy of the morning woods
- 8:00:Tour ends at entrance of the Maruyama Park.
- If you’re in the mood for a delicious croissant after your walk, your companion know a great local bakery to take you to.（The bakery is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.）
