Tour Highlights
- Experience a dynamic waterfall that reaches 40 meters high!
- Take a leisurely stroll through the silent, shining white forest.
- Walk along the Okhotsk coastline, and in season you can see drift ice fields
Experience the beauty of Abashiri!
A frozen waterfall forms every year near the coast of Abashiri. Water flowing along the rock surface freezes repeatedly as the temperature drops, increasing in thickness until it eventually becomes a 40-meter-high ice waterfall.
We will walk through the forest on snowshoes to reach this spectacular natural formation. We will also walk along the coastline of Okhotsk, and in season, the drift ice fields will be right in front of you! It is an impressive sight.
Following the guide’s instructions, you can ride on the washed-up drift ice and enjoy freshly brewed coffee on the ice… It’s a truly luxurious experience that lets you feel close to the drift ice!
Note: The chances of encountering drift ice are extremely low around mid-January. However, you can enjoy a different kind of fun than during the drift ice season, such as seeing the process of icefall formation and having a high chance of encountering seals.

Hiromichi Umebayashi(Nature guide)
The ice waterfall, which changes shape slightly every year, is definitely worth seeing. During the ice season, the spectacular view of drifting ice spreads out before your eyes.
