The Kuromatsunai lowlands in Hokkaido are the closest point in Japan to both the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Japan.

It’s a straight line from the trailhead of Mount Shamanbe in Oshamanbe Town to the Pacific Ocean! Ride along the water’s edge of Shizukari’s sandy beach. After a hard day’s work to get over the mountain pass, the downhill slope is exhilarating.

Even if you’re not confident in your stamina, you can load your bike into the support car and travel along mountain passes depending on your strength. Since it’s a cross bike, even beginners can easily ride.

Tour Company

The northernmost beech trees are the town's treasure! The beech trees that make up the temperate forests are found at their northernmost location in Japan, with Kuromatsunai being known as the "northernmost beech village." The town's beech forests, including the Utasai beech forest, a designated national natural monument, have continued to irrigate the earth as a "green dam" and return its blessings to the local area. We support experiential tours that use the northernmost beech forest, which has been protected from countless threats of logging, and the people who live there as a tourist resource.
