You can catch lots of smelt in Hokkaido’s most famous ice fishing area!
Anyone can easily fish by drilling a hole in the frozen ice with a special fishing rod. Transportation from your hotel in Abashiri City or Ozora Town or Memanbetsu Airport as available for a fee! You can also walk from JR Memanbetsu Station.
Our staff can pick you up and drop you off at your hotel or Memanbetsu Airport, so you can arrive safely. We can also pick you up and drop you off at JR Memanbetsu Station.

Every year, you can enjoy smelt fishing by drilling a hole in the frozen lake surface at Lake Memanbetsu, located 10 minutes from Memanbetsu Airport, the gateway to the sky of Okhotsk. Our expert outdoor guides will take you to the fishing spot. The smelt you catch can be fried on the spot, making it a most popular winter activity.
You can participate empty-handed! A guide will accompany you, so even first-time fishermen can feel at ease.

- If the tour cannot proceed due to heavy rain, lightning, wind, or blizzard, we will cancel the tour and inform you.
- The tour dates may be changed or cancelled if there is not enough snow due to unseasonal weather or other reasons.
- The tour may be cancelled midway for safety or other reasons at the discretion of the guide.
- Please follow all of the instructions of the tour guide, as there are risks in outdoor tours. Please also understand that the guide cannot be held personally responsible for any accidents caused by the customer’s intentional or negligent acts.
