Tour Highlights
Discover Higashikawa! Sitting at the foot of Mt. Asahidake, hikers know it as the gateway to Hokkaido’s highest peak, but locals cherish it for its pristine spring water, straight from the Daisetsuzan National Park. And as any foodie knows, exceptional water yields exceptional rice… and ultimately, exceptional sake!
This tour begins at the Daisetsuzan Gensui Park, a serene forest oasis where we’ll walk to the source of Higashikawa’s famed spring water. You’ll receive a reusable water bottle to sample this pure mountain water firsthand.
We’ll then enjoy a picnic lunch (purchased on Higashikawa’s charming high street, payable on the day) overlooking the lush rice paddies, nourished by the very water we tasted.
Next, we’ll visit a local sake brewery. Though a full warehouse tour isn’t permitted, a viewing window offers a glimpse into the sake-making process. Naturally, you’ll have the opportunity to taste and purchase their exquisite brews.
To end the tour we’ll return to Biei or Asahikawa station, concluding our exploration of Higashikawa’s natural wonders and local delights.
