[Climbing the crater rim (restricted area)]
From here you can see the remains of the Konpira disaster and part of the devastated townscape. You’ll be amazed at how close the source of the hot mudflow is to the town.
[Erosion Control Dam]
This dam was built to prevent further collapse of the mountain, and together with the erosion control dam built to protect the town it protects the lives of the residents and the forest.

Looking through the young crater that opened in the 2000 eruption,
you can see the crater that opened 110,000 years ago. You can also get a visual sense of the ongoing activity of the Earth.

- Cold weather gear- warm and easy-to-move-in clothes
- Snowwear tops and bottoms, light down jacket, or similar wear
- Cold weather gloves are a must. Ski or snowboard gloves are also acceptable.
- Waterproof trekking shoes, boots, or snow boots with thick socks.
- Knit hat
- Sunglasses or snow goggles
