Everyone who knows about Biei knows about the famous Blue Pond! From the famous computer wallpaper to all of the shots taken by photographers, it stands as one of the symbols of Hokkaido. However, there is so much more to Biei!
On this trip, join a local Biei guide on a 3km walk from the Blue Pond through a young-growth forest to Shirogane Onsen.
Meet your guide at JR Biei Station. From there, you will head to purchase food for a picnic lunch before driving to the Blue Pond. Have your fill of the Blue Pond taking pictures and enjoying this famous site before heading off onto the Shirogane White Birch Walking Trail.
Along the way search for birds, plants, and hopefully some squirrels! Explore a mysterious glad with a hidden waterfall, where the water flows directly from the Tokachi volcano range.
When you reach the goal, Shirogane Onsen, view the famous Shirahige Waterfall before enjoying your picnic lunch! If time allows, you can also take the chance to try out Shirogane Onsen’s famous hot springs before catching the bus back to JR Biei Station.

- Ages 6 and older welcome
- The tour will proceed in case of rain.
- If the tour cannot proceed due to heavy rain, lightning, wind, or blizzard, we will cancel the tour and inform you.
- Bears live in the area of this experience. Although the likelihood of encountering a bear is very low, please follow all of your guide’s instructions for safety. Your guide will carry bear spray as a precaution.
- If you are feeling tired and wish to terminate the walk early, we will return to either the Blue Pond or Shirogane Onsen (depending on which is closer) and you can return to Biei via taxi. Your guide will call a taxi for you. However, you must pay the return taxi fee by yourself on site (Biei’s taxis only accept cash). Refunds cannot be given for experiences terminated partway through by your request.

- Please follow all of the instructions of the tour guide, as there are risks in outdoor tours. Please also understand that the guide cannot be held personally responsible for any accidents caused by the customer’s intentional or negligent acts.
- If you do not follow the guide’s instructions or the terms and conditions, you may be asked to leave the tour, as it may cause inconvenience to other participants. You may be asked to leave even in the middle of the tour. No refunds will be given in that case.
- Aggressive or threatening behaviour towards the guide or locals will not be tolerated.
