Tour Highlights
With permission from a local farmer, enter the fields of Biei to enjoy the world-famous views of the rolling hills! Be sure to take a lot of photos before heading to one of Biei’s trendy cafes
Biei is renowned for its stunning “patchwork hills,” but have you ever wondered how this iconic landscape came to be? And what do the farmers of Biei think about this incredible view? On this tour, you’ll stroll through a working Biei field and see the scenery from the farmers’ perspective.
The patchwork hills are a result of a farming technique called “crop rotation.” Biei’s farmers never plant the same crops in a field twice; this prevents soil sickness and also creates the beautiful, varied fields you’ll explore. What will you see? Perhaps tall, swaying stalks of corn, or the vibrant green leaves of beans or sugar beet. If your visit aligns with wheat season, you might even capture some memorable photos right in the wheat field!
After exploring the field, we’ll head to a nearby viewpoint and then a cafe, both offering wonderful views of Biei’s picturesque hills. One drink is included, and if you like, you can try some of the delicious sweets or snacks freshly made by the barista. Once we’ve enjoyed our refreshments, we’ll return to JR Biei Station.
