Let’s go to the mountains and fields of Niseko to find a wild onsen! Take a 20 minute trek through the jungle-like mountain path covered in bamboo grass. When the view opens up you will find our destination- a hidden hot spring with sulfur-smelling steam! This is a rare hot spring source where the hot spring deposits themselves are mud. You
can also apply the mud, which is good for your skin, to your whole body as a “natural mud pack”!
Measures against bears- a question we often get
We’ve been doing this experience for 30 years, but we’ve never encountered a bear.
Of course, when entering the mountains and fields, we take measures to avoid encountering bears, such as ringing a bell or whistling to let the bear know our location. If a bear approaches, we will use bear spray.
If you wish, we will give you a lecture on how to protect yourself from bears, bees, poisonous plants, etc. before the experience.

By car:
From Sapporo, take R230 Nakayama Pass. Turn right on Kimobetsu R276, turn left on R5, then it’s about 5 minutes down the road (about 2 hours 30 minutes from Sapporo)
Boken Kazoku is located along National Route 5.
By public transportation:
Take the bus from JR Kutchan Station to Boken Kazoku for about 15 minutes. Get off at “Hirafu Elementary School” or “Hirafu Kita” and it will be right in front of you.

Notes
- After check-in, you will drive to the destination in your own car (approximately 30 minutes), and will be dismissed at the end of the experience.
- You will walk along a mountain path for approximately 20 minutes. Please wear long sleeves and long pants to protect yourself from bamboo thickets, grass, and horseflies.
- The area is completely natural, and there is no water. Please find a change of clothes in the shade of a rock, or bring your own.
- Mud on your body will be washed off with tap water from the mud hot spring, but it will not come off completely. We will introduce you to a nearby hot spring that you can take a dip in after the experience.
- Even if you wash your swimsuit or clothes that have mud on them, they will still have a sulfur smell. Please be careful.
- If the tour cannot proceed due to the weather, we will cancel the tour and inform you.
