Enjoy the winter scenery at Sunayu, a popular swan migration spot, and warm up with a hot drink along the way before enjoying a leisurely snowshoeing experience around Lake Kussharo!
After getting up close and personal with whooper swans and ducks that come all the way from Siberia, you’ll take a leisurely walk along the lakeside.
As you make your way through the forest that runs along the lakeside, you’ll arrive at a spot with a panoramic view of the vast lake and the impressive Mount Mokoto.
When the lake freezes over, walk on the surface and observe the ice formations and the Omiwatari crossing.
Even if you’re a first-time snowshoe-er, don’t worry! Your guide will give you detailed instructions on how to put on and walk in the snowshoes.

- For children whose shoes are too small (smaller than 16cm) to use snowshoes, they can instead be pulled in a sled
- Guests who are pregnant, have difficult walking, heart conditions, seizure disorders, or are intoxicated are asked to refrain from participating

- Snowwear tops and bottoms, light down jacket, or similar wear
- Cold weather gloves are a must. Ski or snowboard gloves are also acceptable.
- Waterproof trekking shoes, boots, or snow boots with thick socks.
- Knit hat

Notes
- People with physical disabilities, people who have difficulty walking, pregnant women, people who have consumed alcohol, people who are at risk of unexpected seizures, and people with health concerns may be asked to refrain from participating, so please be sure to let us know when making your reservation.
- If the tour cannot proceed due to heavy rain, lightning, wind, or blizzard, we will cancel the tour and inform you.
- Please follow all of the instructions of the tour guide, as there are risks in outdoor tours. Please also understand that the guide cannot be held personally responsible for any accidents caused by the customer’s intentional or negligent acts.
- The guide will carefully lecture you on how to put on snowshoes and dangerous areas around Lake Mashu and Lake Kussharo, but since it is you who will actually be walking, please be careful not to get distracted by the scenery and injure yourself.
Cancellation / Changes
- A cancellation fee of 100% is charged if cancelled on the day of the event or in case of a no-show
- A cancellation fee of 50% is charged if cancelled 3 days or less before the event
