The Kuromatsunai lowlands in Hokkaido are the closest point in Japan to both the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Japan.
It’s a straight line from the trailhead of Mount Shamanbe in Oshamanbe Town to the Pacific Ocean! Ride along the water’s edge of Shizukari’s sandy beach. After a hard day’s work to get over the mountain pass, the downhill slope is exhilarating.
After a delicious lunch and a ride through the Kuromatsunai countryside, the Sea of Japan is just around the corner! This is a 50-kilometer tour that starts from the Pacific Ocean and aims for the Sea of Japan.
Even if you’re not confident in your stamina, you can load your bike into the support car and travel along mountain passes depending on your strength. Since it’s a cross bike, even beginners can easily ride.
E-bikes are also available for rental.

9:00 Meet and move to the starting point
9:30 Arrive at the starting point and begin cycling
Ride through pastures, sandy beaches, and a challenging uphill section. Once you get to the top there’s a long downhill- keep going!
12:00 Lunch
When you finish, continue cycling along the Shufuto River toward the Sea of Japan
15:00 Goal at the mouth of the Shufuto River! Return to the meeting point
15:30 Return to meeting point and end the tour
