- Put on snowshoes and move across the ice!
As the name suggests, on this tour you will drill a hole in the frozen Lake Abashiri and thread a net under the ice to catch smelt.
You may also be able to see Steller’s sea eagles and white-tailed eagles soaring overhead in search of fish.
Then you will put on snowshoes and walk across the frozen lake to the fishing grounds.
When you return to the start, you will be treated to freshly caught smelt tempura and a drink.
- Shoes sizes must be 20cm and bigger to fit the provided snowshoes

- Cold weather gear- warm and easy-to-move-in clothes
- Snowwear tops and bottoms, light down jacket, or similar wear
- Cold weather gloves are a must. Ski or snowboard gloves are also acceptable.
- Waterproof trekking shoes, boots, or snow boots with thick socks.
- Knit hat
- Sunglasses or snow goggles
