Tour Highlights
- 30 minutes from Sapporo. Come empty-handed! Winter clothes and boots are also available for rental!
- Smelt fishing in the Barato River, located on the border with Ishikari in the northern part of Sapporo.
- A 30-minute drive from Sapporo Station, so you can easily participate.
- Rentals for fishing rods, reels, and other equipment needed for smelt fishing is included!
A half-day smelt fishing course near Sapporo and Otaru. Come empty-handed- all rentals are included!
This course is for meeting on-site. Why not spend some fun time in a tent specially designed for smelt fishing on a completely frozen river?
Even if you are new to fishing, your guide will teach you how to use the fishing rod and how to attach bait, so you can enjoy the experience with peace of mind. The smelt you catch swimming in the clear, clean water will be fried on the spot. They are delicious when freshly fried.
Experience smelt fishing and enjoy a leisure activity that is unique to Hokkaido in winter.

What to Bring & Wear
- Cold weather gear- warm and easy-to-move-in clothes
- Snowwear tops and bottoms, light down jacket, or similar wear
- Cold weather gloves are a must. Ski or snowboard gloves are also acceptable.
- Waterproof trekking shoes, boots, or snow boots with thick socks.
- Knit hat
- Sunglasses or snow goggles

2) 13:40～15:45- Please arrive 10 minutes before the start time.
- Itinerary
- 9:40/13:40- Meet at Barato Garden North Hill. Please come 10 minutes before your reservation time. Staff will guide you to the fishing spot.
- 9:45/13:45- Start smelt fishing (about 2 hours). Staff will cook the smelt you caught in between fishing into tempura.
- 11:45/15:45- End of experience/disband
- Please be ready by the meeting time, including changing clothes.
- Also, please use the toilet before starting. Usually you can use the nearby facilities, which are 5-10 minutes walk from the fishing spot.
However, depending on the season, you may have to drive a little further from the toilet location to go fishing.

- Please follow all of the instructions of the tour guide, as there are risks in outdoor tours. Please also understand that the guide cannot be held personally responsible for any accidents caused by the customer’s intentional or negligent acts.

- Catching fish is not 100% guaranteed.
- Smoking is prohibited inside the tents.
- You are responsible for your children.
- If the tour cannot proceed due to heavy rain, lightning, wind, or blizzard, we will cancel the tour and inform you.
- The tour dates may be changed or cancelled if there is not enough snow due to unseasonal weather or other reasons.
- Guests who are pregnant and very small children cannot participate.
