Experience Japanese culture in Sapporo. Sapporo might have a short history of Japanese culture, but it is a great place to learn about traditional arts in an accessible way!
On this tour, join local guides on a trek through Maruyama Park, lying in the heart of Sapporo, on a “shinrinyok” tour. Shinrinyoku is the Japanese practice of forest bathing, which has been proven to give health benefits as well as being a method of connecting with nature.
From there, head to one of Sapporo’s Zen temples. During your visit to the temple, the head priest or one of the monks will guide you through the grounds. You may find that the experience of zazen, a form of seated meditation without a specific purpose or goal, along with the priest’s teachings on Buddhism and Zen philosophy, offers valuable insights for your life.
At the end of the tour, have a delicious Japanese lunch with an English-speaking guide and talk about your experience. Feel free to ask him or her anything you want to know about Japanese culture!
